Herman Kok is Kern’s Director. Kern (English: Core), previously known as the NRW Dutch Council Shopping Centres, is a knowledge and network organisation connecting stakeholders active in centre areas such as owners, retailers, and also public authorities such as municipalities.

As Director, Herman is responsible for Kern’s strategy and activities with which the organisation serves its membership. Before joining Kern, Herman spent almost five years in London where he worked as Head of Research at Ellandi in 2021, a UK based retail property asset manager, and as Head of Research at MARK Capital Management (until November 2020 known as Meyer Bergman) as of 2017. Before, he has worked with Multi Corporation for 16 years in several functions, of which the last 4 years as Head of Research supporting its investment activities from a research perspective. Herman began his career at Kolpron Consultants (Ecorys) in 1997 as real estate consultant in Budapest. Herman is member of several property research communities including Society Property Researchers, ULI Urban Land Institute and RICS Royal Institute Chartered Surveyors. He is involved with repositioning ICSC’s European Research Group into an independent organisation. Herman graduated from State University Groningen with a master’s in human Geography with Economic Geography and Regional Geography as specialisations. He defended his PhD in Human Geography at Utrecht University in 1999, received his MRE Master Real Estate at University Antwerp Management School in 2004, and received his MRICS accreditation in 2013. He guest-lectures at several universities.
